Frequently asked questions on G2 build compare reports
What is the difference between a Standard Comparison Page and a Static Custom Compare Report?
The primary difference lies in automation vs. curation:
- Standard Comparison Page: These are the dynamic, public-facing pages found on G2.com (e.g., Product A vs. Product B). They update in real-time as new reviews flow in. They are great for SEO but are "unfiltered," meaning every available metric is displayed, even those where you might not lead.
- Static Custom Compare Report: These are curated reports you build in your G2 Admin dashboard. Unlike the public pages, these are point-in-time snapshots. You select the specific competitors (up to five) and—crucially—choose only the specific data rows (like "Ease of Use" or "Quality of Support") that you want to highlight. This makes them ideal for sales collateral where you want to emphasize your specific strengths.
How many products can I include in a Compare Report?
- Capacity: You can select up to five products to compare side-by-side in a single custom report.
- Eligibility: You can only pull comparison data for products that sit within the same G2 category. If you are trying to compare your product to a competitor in a different category, you’ll need to work with your G2 representative to ensure your product is multi-categorized correctly.
- Market Segmenting: You can further refine these reports by Company Size (Small Business, Mid-Market, or Enterprise). This allows you to create a "Mid-Market Comparison Report" that excludes Enterprise noise, giving a more accurate "apples-to-apples" view for your specific prospect.
Do I need a paid G2 subscription to build and share Compare Reports?
Yes. While anyone can view the basic "vs" pages on the public G2 site, the ability to build, customize, and download Custom Compare Reports is a premium feature.
- The License: You must have an active G2 Content subscription or a specific report license to "Publish" these reports.
- Sharing: Once published, G2 provides a tokenized link. This link allows you to share the report with prospects or embed it on your website without requiring the viewer to have a G2 account. Because it is "Static," the data won't shift unexpectedly in the middle of a high-stakes deal cycle.
