Frequently asked questions on G2 prospect & visitor data

What is the difference between "Track your Prospects" and "Visitor Data"?

The core difference lies in where the activity happens.

  • Track your Prospects : This refers to accounts who visit BOTH your G2 Profile and your owned website.
  • Visitor Data : This refers to accounts that have visited your Profile without having to click on a CTA.
How does G2 identify the company behind an anonymous visitor?

G2 uses IP-to-Company mapping to de-anonymize traffic.

  • The Identification: When a user visits G2 or your website, G2 looks up the visitor's IP address against a massive database of corporate IP ranges unless the visitor has logged in, in which case G2 uses the available LinkedIn data in conjunction with the IP data.
  • Account-Level Only: Like most intent providers, this identifies the Company (Account), not the specific individual (Contact). You will see that "Microsoft" visited your pricing page, but you won't get the specific name or email of the person who did it.
Is this data a part of Buyer Intent?

No, this data is outside of Buyer Intent and does not require the purchase of Buyer Intent. G2 Buyer Intent identifies companies that are actively evaluating software solutions based on real buyer behavior on G2. Signals are generated when verified buyers research products, compare vendors, visit category pages, view pricing, and more. These signals indicate late-stage purchase intent and goes beyond inferred interest.
