Have you noticed a slight change or update to the name of your G2 category? It's okay, you're not alone. To ensure your category and product continue to get the highest volume and quality traffic, our Market Research and SEO teams routinely push small-yet-thoughtful updates to G2.com's category names. All to help more of the right buyers discover you. While these changes are minor, we hope they continue to provide major impact to traffic and SEO.

What’s happening to G2 category names?
In order to drive the most, best-fit buyer traffic to category pages, G2’s Market Research and SEO teams will be pushing small tweaks and updates to G2 category names. We believe that these little enhancements to our current categories’ names will have a big impact on the volume and types of buyers arriving to those category pages. 

Why is this important?
Our goal at G2 is to help buyers find the best software for them. One way we can help buyers do this is by making sure our category names are optimized for market-fit and SEO. Combining the powers of Market Research and SEO will ensure we’re constantly using relevant industry and search terms that have the highest search volume possible. 

How does this affect me, specifically?
It might not! The changes will be limited and minimal. In some cases it might be as simple as adding or removing an abbreviation at the end of a G2 category name. But if it does, the changes will be relatively small and carefully tracked to ensure it’s yielding better results for your product, your buyers, and your category as a whole. 

Will I be notified of these changes before/after they occur? 
Given both the cross-functional vetting process we go through prior to making changes, and the relatively small nature of the adjustments being made -- we will not be sending out specific communications for all of these changes. Consider this FAQ your go-to resource for that in order to keep these notifications out of your inbox! 

So the name of my category may change often? 
Nope! In order to have data to determine whether the change had impact, we’ve committed to waiting 3 months before re-evaluating new changes or reversions to the previous category name.

What if I disagree with one of these changes?

I have an idea for an update to a category name, who do I tell?
